Thanksgiving Roast

by Christian Hollingsworth on November 27, 2011

in Random

A lot will happen in a week.

  • College class registration
  • Non-post blogging experiment
  • New diet
  • Thanksgiving
  • Grandparent’s home destroyed in a fire
  • Birthday celebrations
  • San Jose Turkey Trot adventures

That’s the quick recap if you want to skip through the rest.

I know you’re busy, so no, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if you did just that. icon wink Thanksgiving Roast

College Class Registration

I work full time online, but the past few weeks I’ve felt the need to get back to school.

I’m finishing up a degree in January at Sierra College, and then will transfer come fall of next year. Hopefully towards a degree in International Business/Marketing.

Although I make a living online without a degree, and there’s a a recent trend towards making it without a formal education – I still support higher education. I believe it’s important to combine the degree, with the passion, hard work, determination and all the above.

That’s my reason for going back to school.

I have a full load arriving, but am very excited about the content. Financial Accounting, Creating A Virtual Office, Marketing A Virtual Office & Managing A Virtual Office, music classes and a few others worked in.

I’m excited to take what I learn from some of related business classes and use that as blog content. I’ve always been a fan of killing two birds with one stone. icon wink Thanksgiving Roast

Decrease In Blog Posts

This past week I only published one post, and that was on my birthday.

I wanted to take a small writing break & watch what happened to social profiles and traffic in the process. Ultimately, I was really only hurt in one way. Blog traffic decreased.

Other than a decrease in traffic (which is always expected), I believe it’s a good thing to take a break every once in a while from blogging. We’re human, and need it.

New Diet with RiseSUP

I’m still very ill.

Stress, lack of sleep & not eating right are all things that cause my illness to show its ugly head. As of now I’m down to 115lbs. But no need for alarm, as I’m excited for what the future holds.

I decided to make a mighty, drastic change in my life.

I called up my friends over at RiseSUP (paddleboarding and nutrition experts) and decided to embark on a new health journey. All sugars, bad fats, dairy, wheat and other products have been pulled from my diet completely. It’s going to be difficult, because although we eat relatively healthy, I’m a huge lover of candy and all manner of sweets.

I believe that even if the doctors don’t know what’s wrong, by eating right, many diseases and illnesses can and will be cured. I’m going to put this to the test.

Fitness goals are also going to ventured upon, and photos of myself will be documented and presented here online. I want to be accountable to not only my trainers and myself, but to the world as well.

The Destruction of Fire, Mummies & Turkey

Thanksgiving day was wonderful.

We spent a few days down in San Jose during my birthday (day before Thanksgiving) and even went to the Rosecrucian Egyptian Museum. A delightful place.

Thanksgiving day we traveled back to my grandparents and had a wonderful dinner with cousins and family. Late that night we received a call that my other set of grandparent’s home was on fire.

Over twenty firefighters were at the scene. We're grateful for all firefighters, especially the volunteers away from their families.

Some of the destruction inside.

My Mother and I got into our vehicle and headed over. Ultimately it was started in the chimney – and the third and second floor of the home was completely destroyed with the rest of the home being damaged by smoke and water.

The good news is that nobody was harmed, and all is going to be alright. The insurance company is already working on the rebuild.

It was interesting to lose most of the home. I grew up for most of my childhood there, and have many memories within its walls. The playground of my youth where my imagination and delight in the world grew in full force. Spending countless hours on the third story reading, building forts under the ping-pong table & playing games.

We’ve all gathered together, will rebuild the home, and let the memories continue.

Below is a picture my Aunt found of the home in full Christmas light regalia from previous years. We like to remember the home in this way. Isn’t it beautiful? My Grandpa loves his Christmas lights. icon smile Thanksgiving Roast

Let the changes begin this Holiday season!

Sounds like you have quite a bit on your plate here lately. Interested to see how that diet goes; sounds interesting.

Good luck to your grandparents on the rebuild and good luck to you as you go back to school.

It’s been quite a lot, certainly, and doing my best to learn from it all and become stronger in the process. Isn’t that part of life difficult? It sure is for me!

And thank you for the kind inspiration and support. I appreciate you!

To begin please do feel better. I too had to make a major change to diet over the past week. So I know how you feel. But make sure you get some sleep my friend we need you in the world to impact the lives of small business owners and others the like.

Enjoy your break and enjoy school.

Were your changes in diet similar? And yes, I’ll do my best to sleep more too. That’s what my family has been asking me to do for quite some time.

I’m not a good sleeper.

Nightmares always, insomnia. The sleeping schedule is never perfected, but I do my best to constantly pursue that good night.

And thank you for sharing in the love. You rock!

Thank you for the thoughts Tracy. It’s so grand to get some good feedback and support from all of you. It’s needed, as I’m not always perfect in staying strong on my own. I NEED SUPPORT! :)

Sleep and eating right. We ALL need to do that better. Let’s do it together to make the process a whole lot easier!

Knew it wouldn’t be long before you posted about your week. The fire pic speaks volumes. Dang! But knowing you guys well, and your astounding strength and resolve the home will rise-up from the ashes to be the continuing iconic memory playground….for so many. The diet change…..huge support for that, and I know it will be hard in some ways, but the end road will be worth it. FYI…putting Dave back on a more strict one…ESP. The sugar and wheat. Really has put him in a downslide of health. Add the winter cold, and yikes! Let me know how it goes for you. Hooray for the schooling!!! You. Rock. Jedi!!!!! Love ya’!!!! BTW…still can’t the Twitter change figured out. Sheesh!!!

You’ll probably get to see the house again when it’s all nice and built up. I’m excited for when that happens!

Sorry to hear about Dave. For myself, I just know that not much is going to change unless I just make a dedicated, drastic change. I really need to make the change before my body is going to have enough power to heal itself. However much I don’t like going to a no wheat diet, it’s needed. I wish us both luck! Keep me updated on how he progresses.

So which Twitter problem are you having? I’m sure we could figure out some type of solution.

Happy Belated Birthday Christian! I’m so sorry to hear about your grandparent’s home! The house in the picture is so beautiful and it’s so sad to see the house got damaged by fire. :-( You are taking a blogging break! We’ll miss your posts. Well last week was supposed to be the break, but we had a little wrench thrown in with the fire. I might take a little more time off in December too though. We’ll just have to see how things work out.

We all love you too much for traffic to go down a whole lot, Nami! :)

I have no doubt that everything you take on Christian, you will prosper. You do like to keep busy don’t you?

School, wow I’m so glad I’m past all of that. I hope you enjoy it since it sounds like something you want to accomplish. You are going to be one heck of a busy guy!

I know that a healthy lifestyle can do wonders for health problems. I hope that it helps you not only get in shape but deal with this horrible illness that has been following you around for way too long. Can’t wait to hear how that all goes.

I’m so sorry to hear about your grandparents home. I would be so heartbroken but like you said, everyone is safe and that’s the most important thing that came from this. I’m glad it didn’t burn to the ground and can be salvaged. I love the photo with all the Christmas light. What a beautiful home.

Hope you enjoyed the holidays, I sure did. Now, it’s time to jump back in. Have a great week!

Thank you for all the supporting thoughts and wishes. I really appreciate them all. And like you finished with….let’s just jump right in and see what happens.

Glad to be holding hands with friends like you. It makes the journey more fun. :)

Hi Christian,

It seems to me that you get a lot more done than most people. How do you do it? Are you very focused, and work in batches (been studying time management)?

I’m looking forward to read more about your diet. I’m a vegetarian, but I love candy :)

I’m sorry to hear about the fire.

Time management.

One of my favorite things to think about study and strive to be better at.

I think I’ve learned most of what I do from my father. He’s one of those people that has an exorbitant amount of energy. Mountains of energy. Although I don’t have quite his level of energy, I’ve been born with a balanced dose.

When I was younger, I become interested in dog sledding. You have to be efficient when working with a bunch of dogs. That gave me some insights as well.

Otherwise, I have really bad insomnia most nights! lol

I’ll keep you updated on the diet. I’m interested to see how it goes myself. So far the migraines have lessened, which really excites me!

I’ve been blogging for around 10 years now. I started back when I was young, when blogs were posted with manual code. Long gone are those days! :)

The wonderful part of blogging, is that you can pick it up, drop it off, keep it going, etc…Just imagine how many blog posts you’ll have accumulated in ten more year’s time! An 80 year old could have like 20,000 blog posts! :)
