The Study of Digital Media: Interview with Kendra Tustin

My name’s Kendra Tustin. I am in my third year at Sacramento State University studying Digital Media in Communications.

I love everything and anything related to technology and media so that’s one reason digital media is my major. I’m a horror movie guru. Photography is one of my hidden passions I hope to incorporate that into my near future career.Well that’s me in a nutshell!

How have your studies in Digital Media been different than originally expected?

I haven’t taken a large amount of the digital media classes yet, but the ones I have taken so far are really interesting.

I was expecting lots of studies just involving “communications,” but it’s so much more then that and I’m really enjoying it.

What do you hope to do with your degree in Digital Media?

I honestly don’t have a clue just yet. I’m still going through all of the options. I was thinking something along the line of advertising, but I still have time to think about it.

How did you decide to pursue a degree in Digital Media?

Well my oldest sister graduated from Sac State majoring in Digital Media and she loved it.

I originally chose Photography as my major, but that is more of a hobby then a profession to me.

My friends and my family tell me I’m techno savvy so why not do something that I love and will enjoy learning about?

What are some of your passions in life?

I have quite a few passions, most of them not really for a career, but just passions.

I love music.

Playing instruments and singing have always been in my life and I hope to pass that on to my future children.

As I said before, I love Photography. Whether it is sports photography, fashion photos, or just taking photos for fun, I will always have a mind of a creative photographer.

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration can find its way to me really easily.

Sometimes it’s something outside when I’m walking to class or I’ll let my mind wander and all of these ideas will constantly be popping in my head. I consider myself a really creative person that my mind could burst with all of the ideas I have, so I guess you can say it’s not hard for me to find inspiration.

To someone interested in the study of digital media, what advice would you give?

I would honestly say, do not hold back.

Let your creative side be shown because that will help you in the long run.

You are so kind Eddie. You just keep coming back, share posts via Twitter, share your thoughts – I just want to simply thank you first for all you do for me. I wish I could give you more. Know that I certainly have you in mind for an interview soon.

It’s been my goal lately to feature a lot more interviews. There are just SO many people out there who deserve more attention. That’s why an interview will be featured almost daily for the next couple of weeks and I hope to continue.

College students, I believe, could really benefit from learning from their peers. Often they’re a little “removed” from one another, maybe due to the competitive nature of college – but it’s important to meetup and learn. And for someone interested in a certain degree, these interviews could help too.

Have a marvelous day Eddie.

This is a very nice thing you’re doing Christian for students in college. It’s good that they get the recognition they deserve and serves as a nice encouragement for them. Keep up the great work.

Thank you Jocelyn. Appreciate the thoughts and motivation. Certainly, if you know of any college students that could benefit – please send them over. I’d be happy to organize an interview for them.

As a matter of fact, I do! Do you have certain qualifications you’re looking for? I’d be happy to send them your way.

PS: How do I get my photo next to my name here?

Thanks,
Jocelyn

As for your photo, are you using Gravatar? Basically, in gravatar – you have to tell your system what emails to use to send a photo too. Then, if you use the email to log a comment here, it will match it up.

As for qualifications, just one: Passion. Please do send them my way. You can use the contact form above (http://smartboydesigns.com/contact).

Thank you Jocelyn!
