Tate Nanje & His Journey

Tate Nanje is a traveler, chronic reader, writer, web/graphic designer, and a seeker of solitude because silence is the language of the soul. You can find him blogging at Tatesjourney, which is a travel blog for any who enjoys traveling, ESL teaching, living better, poetry and has a passion for and in life. His PC repair blog is located at tataPC.

Who do you look up to?

Although I looked up to my grandfather who taught me a lot about how life and people are supposed to behave towards each other, he also taught me a great lesson in his calm yet powerful voice.

Like Emerson he would say, “imitation is suicide it’s better to be yourself” and set an example because if we all looked up to people, there would be too much repetition in the cycle of life. However, there are individuals I admire greatly: Buddha, Gandhi, Elie Wiesel and many more.

In what ways do you build traffic to your blog?

The way that works for me in building traffic is talking to people as I travel.

I attend poetry events, meet with other travelers and share my story. I find that the majority of them are very interested in keeping up with me and me with them. Since I don’t have a lot of readers, this is good because the ones I get stay with me.\

And other bloggers are another way I get traffic to my blog. I wrote a article not too long ago for One Travel and that generated a lot of traffic.

What are some of your passions?

The obvious one is poetry and traveling.

And because I have been working on a book that’s soon to come out, I have been editing and have not written much on the blog. For the same reason, I suspended some traveling I wanted to do but soon I will be off again.

Soccer, I love soccer. I have played my entire life.

Other passions of mine include philosophy, computers, hiking, collecting wines, and reading.

Why do you enjoy blogging?

I get to let people into my little world. It is a let out for me. I love it because in this gigantic world of the internet, there is a space I can call mine.

How can social media be used in a more powerful way?

This is evident in the revolution in Egypt.

Social media and unification, I like how that sounds. It can be used to unite people and fight the perceived wrongs of this world.

What can a blogger do to be better?

Read.

How do you find happiness?

In the silences around the world. My grandfather used to say, “silence is the language of the soul”. The way I find happiness is by listening to my soul.

Sounds weird but then again normal is boring.

Tate’s Story

Hi my name is Tate. I love to travel. In 2009 I went to South Korea to teach English. However, before I left U.S soil I started to wonder what I could do to let people know about my whereabouts since my travels were not going to end in South Korea. I started Tatesjourney.com (my blog about my travels, poetry and better living) to do just that. Another message I am hoping to get across with Tatesjourney.com is that you don’t have to be rich to travel the world. There are ways to do it such as ESL teaching, work and travel visas and plenty of other programs and visas out there that allow you to be mobile. If I can do it why can’t you?

Prior to starting Tatesjourney.com, I had just graduated college but did not want a nine to five immediately. I spent a lot of time in poetry houses and later on coffee shops to share my passion for poetry. Now, I share the majority of that writing on Tatesjourney.com and occasionally attend poetry readings when in a different country to share that experience.

Currently, I am back home in U.S in Atlanta, GA working on my first complete book of poems while planning my next trip to Australia in August. I enjoy hearing from other bloggers, travel junkies and poetry lovers. If you are one of these guys or just a fellow traveler on the road of life, feel free to shoot me an email at: tnanje@tatesjourney.com.

I have to confess, I too was attracted to blogging due to the enormity of the internet.

It just seems so endless and I always have the feeling that there are endless opportunities…:)

Christian, honored to be a small part of your growing network. Thanks for the interview. Decided to head back to Korea instead. I figured I can go to Australia anytime, I just have this feeling of unfinished business there :) .
