Your Free Web Marketing Plan

by Christian Hollingsworth on July 27, 2011

in Marketing

This is your free web marketing plan.

For the promotion of your company blog, website or brand, I’m suggesting these different ways you can generate traffic. Choose the ones that best suit you – or use them all for an all out marketing attack!

This guide will help you to:

  • Grow your online presence.
  • Generate traffic.
  • Increase sales.

Always remember that with all tools – they have the capacity and capability to be used for good or bad, help or hinder. All your actions positively or negatively affect your brand – so use caution and don’t go about spamming the world with your message.

Treat it with care, and you’ll find greater success.

Backlink Generation

Backlinks are links back to your website from another site.

Google ranks pages from 0-10. This ranking is known as Page Rank or PR. If your page has received backlinks from good PR pages then your page is considered to be important in the eyes of the search engine and your PR and rank on Google for different keywords will improve.

You can hire a back linker who’ll give you high PR backlinks from different related websites. I prefer to do most things myself.

Ways to get back links…

Article Marketing

Article marketing is one way to get backlinks.

For this, you have to get some articles written over your niche topic (in this case, whatever your company’s niche is), with the last 2-3 lines dedicated to your page and a link back to it. Then these articles are submitted on different article submission websites online and hence you get backlinks in return to these submissions.

You can hire a SEO friendly writer who’ll write the articles for you with appropriate keyword density.

The article poster will create accounts on different article submission websites and will submit your articles on them.

Here is the list of some famous article posting websites.

Forum Posting

Forum posting is another great way to get backlinks.

The first step here is to join forums (related to your niche) on the web and there are many of them! You can hire a forum poster, but know that it’s not recommended to spam forums. You’ll quickly be banned and receive a negative connotation of your brand.

You’ll also receive backlinks from any links that are attached to your forum post signature.

Blog Commenting

Blog commenting is also just like forum posting in which you can comment on blogs with your link back to your page.

You can hire a blog commenter for this job. The commenter will comment in such a way that its comment will be related to the content of the post which is made on blog and you’ll get the back link too. The backlinks are created from your name being linked back to your blog.

Always remember these simple thoughts in regards to blog commenting:

  • Never spam.
  • Although you can hire individuals to comment for you, I haven’t trusted this to anyone else.
  • Always remember that each comment is a “window” into your brand. Be respective, positive and helpful.
  • Don’t comment for the sole purpose of obtaining links. You’ll lose quickly.

PPC Advertising

PPC or Pay per Click advertising is when you advertise on search engines and pay only when some one visits your website.

They’re the cheapest way to get visitors because this way you can get visitors as cheap as 1 cent and you’ll be paying only for the visitors which will actually click your link and visit your website.

Some PPC programs include:

Social Media Marketing

Businesses are making use of social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn.

The wonderful part of social media is that you have the ability of creating a “space” for your product or brand on each social networking website – allowing customers and fans to connect.

Social media allows you to:

  • Keep customers current on company news.
  • Find new customers.
  • Grow your online presence.
  • Network with other business owners.

Newsletters

If you’re maintaining a list of your visitors with their email addresses – then sending them newsletter from time to time is a good way to stay connected. Your newsletter will be a great way to keep your customers updated on current news, remind them of new products & inspire them to visit your website.

When managing a newsletter remember:

  • Don’t send too many emails to your contacts. You’ll frustrate them and cause them to unsubscribe.
  • Keep your newsletter personal, to the point and well structured.
  • Treat your list with caution – as it’s often your lynchpin to success.

What Do You Do?

This is a basic web marketing plan – not even covering the mammoth topic of how to blog. At this point I’d like to hear how you develop your web marketing plans, and what you do to drive traffic.

Do you have a strong grasp of your web marketing plan? How do you “freshen up” your web marketing skills? Have you spent a large fee in hopes of obtaining a stalwart plan from professional marketers?

That’s great Eddie. It’s great to have seen the growth of your blog, and its rankings. It’s proceeding quickly, all due to the effort you’re putting into it. What’s the item in marketing that you seem to spend the most time working on each day?

I have been using most of those methods over the past two years and it truly does take some dedication and some outsourcing to get most of it done. But, if you understand how to work your time and also when to do specific tasks you’re going to do really great.

Pay per click has always been one of my favorite methods via Facebook ads but my focus lately has been on guest posting on other sites offering great value.

Hi Christian,

thanks for sharing this thorough synopsis of web marketing strategies. I am wondering about the following: People who really know their stuff, will they do the grunt work for others and get paid by the hour or will they just apply what they know and leverage off of that knowledge financially ? I don’t have the answer of course, but just like you I prefer doing most things alone until I really found trustworthy people. Because I don’t want to do everything alone forever.

I have a web marketing plan and I stay updated through my mastermind group and connecting with wonderful people like you through their blogs. Reading, deciding what’s for me and what not and then applying it. Then doing that consistently for a longer period of time (I tunnel then), then reviewing and when necessary adjusting.

Take care

Interesting thought Oliver. Yes, like you it’s difficult to release the really important tasks to other people; although I know it’s leveraged well when outsourced.

I think there’s a mixture of people. Some who work hard using their known internet methods for others – and some who use their skills for self. I seem to be a mixture of both.

I think if you know proper SEO then its easy for you to promote your website effectively and you can gain good SERP(Search Engine Ranking Pages). Although hiring professionals for that would really makes it easy and comfortable and you will gain a positive and quality based work from them. Thanks for sharing this post with us.

I find this to be true in every blog post I read about marketing. However, not every blog is made the same. This holds true especially for blogs that do not talk about Personal Development or financial blogs. I think (something I going to try) is try to expand and network through guest blogging. I’ve been reading on youngprepro and viperchill about this…

Viewing other blogs, I think your strategy is to team up with people because of the youthful influence (charm) you have. It’s a good thing.

So combining your strategies with the aforementioned websites – we’ll see where it takes my brain…

Please keep us updated on your thoughts and what you’ve learned from your research. I think you’re surely right there too, in identifying that different methods will work for different blogs.

One of my very niche, small blogs was for a sport that was very small as well. By contacting each person individually (even on the phone sometimes!) I was able to attract the entire audience in the world towards the blog – which made it successful. And that’s COMPLETELY a different approach.

Look at me… writing a comment just for the backlink. Yes… I am the evil commenter blogger villain. (insert evil laugh)

Too bad I have so many opinions that I actually do my best to say something that matters.

I think the overall message here… its DAMN HARD WORK. Many people think that there is some easy solution. But you have to earn your keep. I’m lucky to know some smart people, like Christian, who really do help by adding information that helps me. (thanx!!)

So glad I know you Laurinda. Always a joy to receive some input from your thoughts and comments. You’ve hit the nail on the head right there. This web marketing plan doesn’t even go into extreme detail – but we are still able to understand that the level of difficulty is going to be HUGE! and the time investment is HUGE! and it’s HARD!

The real challenge is managing your time well – for a greater output.

Good stuff.

Pretty much what I’ve been doing. But it just takes a lot of work. It’s actually quite simple to make it in the online business. It takes a huge load of work, like with everything in life and a little bit of luck.

Hi Christian,

Great advice you give here. You can pay for traffic or you can set aside some time each day and work to get free traffic or you can do both.

The main thing is that you build good relationships with like minded people. Providing value and helping each other out is key.

All the ways you mention- all the ways are effective ways to get traffic but I believe one of the most powerful ways is blog hopping and commenting.

Its a great way to build relationships, learn off each other, help each other and get free traffic!

One must utilize all the ways although all aspects of blogging are very powerful. Welcome to the 21st century.

Keep on keeping on Christian,

You make a great point here Terry. One in particular is that the blog commenting will grow exponentially. You’ll be able to comment on blogs for traffic, and then benefit from the great relationships you’ve built too. It’s very personal!

Hi Christian,

I have been using all of the techniques you discuss, although I haven’t really thought of it as building backlinks. Backlinks are very important, but I have been focusing more on building relations.

So, one thing is to get visitors to your website, but then we need to keep them there (keep them coming back, or continue the relationship with you).

I think what helps in getting people to keep coming back is that strong line of content. The content that keeps streaming in, almost daily, allowing your readers to be fed by some type of thought often.

And I think you’ve got a great method there too. If you build relationships first, I feel the backlinks come naturally just as byproduct. You almost don’t even have to worry about it!

iPhone applications are a great item to market and produce an income, especially when they have something to do with your brand and website also.

And no, we can never forget the importance of social marketing via Facebook and Twitter. They definitely bring a tremendous value to any website.

Some good ideas on different marketing tactics
Before you implement tactics its to ensure that you have a product/service strategy that makes sense to your potential customer.
Points of difference, reasons why people should choose you V’s the competition.
Also when you get into the implementation phase, set up a monitoring system to make sure all of your tactics are generating sufficient results to hit your sales plan.
If you want to set your inbound marketing objectives there is a free calculator found on our site.

It’s what I’m always trying to tell businesses and people trying to make money online; you’ve got to identify that product and then treat your efforts online as a real business.

How important it is to research/identify needs in their sector, and then keep at that research continually throughout the business operation and process.

Will check out your site too. Thank you for sharing, Mark.

I agree with all of these tips, the other thing that I would add to this is networking with other people in your niche. Part of this is covered in the commenting portion of the post above because I have found that commenting on other blogger’s posts is a great way to get to know other people.

In fact, that is how I got my first contact with Christian. With some bloggers I have met with them in person and keep in touch regularly. These people have been excellent resources and I have been able to help many other people.

The most important thing I have found is making real and genuine connections with people.

Thank you for sharing this excellent information.
