Interview with Stephen Perkins: A Teen Entrepreneur

Stephen Perkins is a teen entrepreneur and founder of LittleAlien Media and he writes for his personal blog where he talks about being a teen entrepreneur.

You can find him on Twitter at @Stephen_Perkins. Stephen has been pursuing business for three years and continues to develop different ventures while expanding his knowledge on a variety of topics.

Who do you look up to?

The media entrepreneur side of me looks up to great media professionals like Rupert Murdoch, Mark Cuban, and Ted Turner while the online business side of me looks up to people like Kevin Rose and Ben Lang.

In what ways do you build traffic to your blog?

I find that the best way to build traffic is through Twitter.

I absolutely love the power of Twitter because it is able to bring interested people to your site rather quickly. I also grow traffic by carefully writing my content, post/page titles, and keywords.

What are some of your passions?

One thing I’m passionate about is learning. I am always researching business, marketing, and media concepts.

I also love being with my family because they keep me inspired.

How often do you blog?

I believe in teen entrepreneurs and I want to give back to them by writing about what I know.

Right now I blog about every other week but my goal is to start blogging twice per week on both of my blogs.

How can social media be used in a more powerful way?

I think social media can be more effective when you engage the readers. Just like you would in an advertisement, include a call to action. Ask your followers what they think or encourage them to comment with their ideas.

What can a blogger do to be better?

Bloggers need to come up with more creative and unique content. People are looking for interesting and though-provoking articles, not just the same old normal ones.

How do you find happiness?

Whether it’s spending time with my family or reading up on business topics, I find happiness by doing the things I love.

Wow, Stephen to hear you speak about blogging and marketing and business is amazing. You obviously are very dialed into yourself, your audience and yourself. And the fact that you get twitter is amazing. To me it means you get the importance of networking and relationships. something that took me over a year to get until recently.

Glad to meet you and looking forward to reading your blog..
Christian, you are amazing too. LOL, didn’t want you not to feel the love. xoxxo

I love learning too. It always pissed me off when I quit college and people started talking to me about the importance of education as if college is the ONLY place to be educated.

Meanwhile, I was reading books on Neuroplasticity, business, personal development, history, and a host of other topics.

Great interview Christian, seems like a smart cookie! I would add a couple of things though and one is to build a custom fan page with liks directly to the blog as well as a feed and twitter.
being a website designer and a blogger in one its quite easy for me to make one however for the aspiring blogger i would invest some time and effort into learning how to make one there is plenty of advice out there hey!

My second point stems from what Steven said when you asked him “How often do you blog?”! Now my piece of advice would be to keep up the posting once you commit to it otherwise you will lose your following. to the aspiring blogger i would say start posting once a week and as confidence grows then start posting more often but dont start posting everyday then drop to 2 a month as all that hard work and effort goes down the drain and the blog will lose subscribers and traffic as well as reputation!

anyway thats my 2pennys worth!

I really enjoy short interviews like this, and especially interviews that are straight to the point. I would love to get more information about how you drive traffic via Twitter, because that’s something I’m not that good at.
