Phil Lusted runs the popular blog, Philz Corner, where he discusses ways to improve blogging techniques and strategies. He resides in the UK and enjoys life to its fullest!
How did you get involved in blogging?
I first started getting involved in blogging a few years back, but to begin with I was not really taking it too seriously. My first blog was hosted on Livejournal because it was popular and free to use back then. The blog mainly was covering some daily life updates and a few rants every now and then about things I had heard on the news.
After a while I stopped blogging mainly because I never got much feedback so I felt I was writing to myself all the time. Then in early 2010 I started browsing web design blogs and also entrepreneur based blogs. I really enjoyed reading and learning other people’s skills and ideas so I decided to make Philz Corner! A blog based on blogging, business and web design tips and tricks! That’s when I started taking blogging seriously and professionally.
What makes a successful blog?
Remember that you want to keep building your community base so ask them questions and get them involved in your blog.
To see good results from blogging you firstly need to be very patient about it. In the blogging world results don’t happen over night. From the beginning you need to be writing amazing content for your readers to find interesting in order to keep them returning. You might not get much feedback on a new blog but if you keep up with the hard work it will only be time before you see results. I think it took me three months before I started receiving regular comments.
Another point to consider is making sure you think about your community all the time. Remember that you want to keep building your community base so ask them questions and get them involved in your blog, ignoring your community wont get you very far, keep them involved in any way possible.
What do you enjoy doing?
If I am not sat in front of my laptop putting articles together I am usually playing on my Playstation 3. I love RPG’s, mostly Final Fantasy. I also enjoy going to Church, listening to music, watching DVDs, hanging out with friends and watching English football. Manchester United is my team!
What’s the best part of living in the United Kingdom?
I have lived in the UK since birth, Wales to be precise. I love it here! The area I live in is very quiet and far from any city. I also have all my family and friends living around me too, so that’s another good thing about living in the UK.
What makes you smile?
No use blogging if you are not enjoying it because eventually you will just give up.
Quite a lot of things make me smile to be honest. I am a bold follower of Christ and he makes me smile on a regular basis, just because he gave me the ability to wake up and live life. My family and friends also make me smile, without them I don’t think things would be the same, so I have God to thank for them.
It’s important not to forget your readers, remember they are very valuable to you and its the reason why you are blogging…To share with others, so don’t forget about them as you might start loosing visitors. You should also take the time to think about the correct subject to blog about, something you have a passion for! No use blogging if you are not enjoying it because eventually you will just give up.

Appreciate all the fantastic comments over here at Phil’s interview. I thought his answers were inspirational and exciting! Always love learning about the many, many incredible bloggers out there. Thank you Phil!
I love this line: “No use blogging if you are not enjoying it because eventually you will just give up”. I mention that as the finale to almost every article I write when I’m extolling the reasons why people should blog, while acknowledging it’s not for everyone. Very good point; great interview.

It’s certainly true. Thousands of blogs expire because there’s a lack of passion. They chose the wrong niche, maybe because they wanted to make money etc…and got burnt out. It’s sad.
so the bottom line is: stick to what is closest to your heart.
i have been telling my friends that blogging has this simple equation: fun+focus=money.
