Well, I’ll take psychiatrically unstable blog commenters any day of the week over clever little auto-spam bots.
I swear, sometimes I feel like Neo, warring against these bots with my Captcha’s and crude arithmetic equations.

When you own a website , how does the whole advertising thing work? For example, if i started a website that eventualy got tens of millions of hits a month, how would i get companies to advertise on my site? Would i approach them ? Would they approach me? Would they supply me the advertising banners? What sort of money is offered for advertising space?

It depends on your goals. You can have a whole load of visitors, and paste an affiliate link and make a decent amount of money from that setup. With very little maintenance. Otherwise you can offer your rates, and if you get good traffic, advertisers will usually come running to you.
