How I Tripled My Blog Traffic This Month

The traffic here on Smart Boy Designs tripled this past month. This was largely due to one simple phenomenon. Content.

In the month of February I composed and published 46 posts – which for some – is a high rate of content production.

Below I’ll explain my traffic increase – and a few other quirks I think help.

Produce more content.

Content is simply the driving force behind any blog, website or news company. Without content, brands dry and die on the vine. By upping my content production, naturally, traffic increased at a blitzing pace.

If you do the same – your analytics program is going to work extra hard. I guarantee it.

A photo per post.

I have a new policy here. The policy is that I include at least one photo with every blog post.

Although it’s a funny little quirk or mine, I feel photos add life to a blog.

  • They aide in visualization of concepts.
  • Add life and vitality to your blog.
  • Increase reader interest & concentration.

A photo per post may not work for you – but I’d suggest messing around with the idea.

Get involved in social media.

This past month I’ve also had an increase in my social media presence. Below are a few things I’ve focused on this past month.

  • I answer many questions on Twitter. Adding value to my Tweets.
  • Connect with friends on Facebook. They become valuable “word-of-mouth” progenitors.
  • Within blog posts I strive to link to more blogs & good content. It adds value to what I write – and is a good practice for others.

Build free content.

This month I’ve unveiled a few “free” things, and a whole lot more is on the way. When you produce free tools & products, you’re blog is instantly on the market as a better place to visit.

Who doesn’t run when something is free?

Conclusion

Although these thoughts/practices don’t work for everyone – they have for me. With every blog, experimentation is necessary. Build your blog, produce content – and dabble in different methods of attracting visitors and traffic.

Edison found thousands of ways the light-bulb didn’t work – before it blinked with light.

Christian,
Fine work. Do you care to share numbers?
Also, what percentage of your numbers might be directly related to social media? I’m interested because I don’t have much of a social media presence.
My numbers have shot way up from when I started. I went from about 4 a day in Jan. to 8 in Feb. to now averaging 25 a day with no signs of slowing. Commenting has been a major boost.

These statistics come directly from Google Analytics. In the beginning I was averaging 100 unique visitors per day, and now I’m at 300 after this past month. One hundred per day come directly from social media sites (e.g. Twitter/Facebook mostly)

Let me know how else I might help or if you have any other questions.

Good work on your blog! Increasing those numbers can be difficult – but doable if you have the right mindset.

Great tips, man. 46 in one month is definitely a lot of posts, especially for the shorted month of the year! that’s like two posts a day, most bloggers struggle to do even one a day, little alone two. You definitely deserve the viewers increase.

I think the difference for me – that month, was the way I looked at blog posts. I have a notebook/pen with me at all times, and would write out a rough draft or two before bed each night. Then, the next day, it was no problem to get the post out. All I had to do at that point was re-write and polish.
