I’m often asked how often a blogger should be posting to his/her blog. The problem is, this question can’t be answered simply. There are many aspects that must first be considered.
It’s like asking someone how much you should go to the bathroom. It really depends.
The Philosophical Theories
As a general rule of thumb, in my opinion, 2-3 new blog posts should be added to your blog weekly. This is a good number to aim for, as it’s enough to keep your readers interested – and the search engines satisfied with new content.
There are many who believe a new post should be created daily. Although I believe this can be a beneficial production rate – it’s important that these posts be well written and remain quality. Your readers would rather get one, weekly post of high quality then a bunch of hacked out filler posts.
It’s also important not to burn out your readers – and yourself. Different blogs call for different amounts of content. A high quality niche blog will produce less posts then a celebrity news blog.
In short – it depends on your blog, how efficiently you’re able to write, and the length of posts. As mentioned previously – aim for producing a few blog posts per week, and increase if you feel yourself and your readers can handle the extra content.
As with anything in the blogging world – test, test, test. And test again. You’ll soon learn how much to post for your blog’s specific needs.
After completing the above poll – share with us why you blog the amount you do.

I aim for about 4-5 posts a week. Every day was too much pressure, but I didn’t want days to go by with no post. Quality is more important to me than frequency.
I think should be one post daily.

I agree Joe. 4-5 posts per week seems to work as a good compromise for myself also.
I started out blogging daily. My friends, who were my first followers, asked me to slow down, they couldn’t keep up with me. Now I do about 2-3 blogs per week, and always a video blog on the weekends – something unusual or inspirational, and that gives me time off. Traveling back and forth to the lake house this summer has been rough with blogging. I discovered I could schedule them, that helped, but I am behind in comments and following every time I go away! Mixing up your posts with a video is a great way to keep readers interested.
As for comments – I know what you mean. It’s hard to stay on top of the community. What I like to do is check comments each morning and night – and respond.
I like that you bring up the point that there is no correct blog posting frequency. I think it largely depends on what kind of readers you have. If you have a lot of subscribers, you want to keep them happy and produce at a level that they are comfortable with. So it might be a good idea to consult your visitors directly about this. With a tech oriented blog you can usually post quite frequently. For blogs that deal with non-tech issues, once a day is often too much.
I haven't blogged on a regular schedule until this year. I'm aiming for100-365 posts this year with both of my blogs.
