This is my last semester at college before acquiring my Associates degree in Computer Information Systems, with a concentration in Internet studies.
Because all my classes revolve heavily on internet design and development – my textbooks are applicable to those who read this blog. In the future I’ll be reviewing each book in depth as I study from each.
The WEB Collection Revealed Standard Edition - This comprehensive introductory book provides step-by-step instruction and in-depth explanation on three of today’s most widely used Web design and development programs: Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, Adobe Flash CS4, and Adobe Fireworks CS4. Readers gain practical experience with the software as they work through end-of-chapter learning projects and step-by-step tutorials. An integration chapter demonstrates how to move from one application to the other while creating a Dreamweaver Web site that incorporates both Flash and Fireworks files. Full-color illustrations and a user-friendly design combine to create a solid learning experience that reveals how to master the latest features of these popular applications.
Web Development: A Visual Spatial Approach - An excellent reference for, professionals and experienced designers, this text takes a holistic approach to web development. At the heart of the text is the belief that keeping the user’s needs in mind during development process will create more effective sites. It addresses planning, structure, navigation, content, design, and usability while focusing on their interconnectedness within web development. Both traditional and contemporary theoretical approaches are discussed including rhetorical theory, visual-spatial thinking, and user-centered design. A number of real world examples including screen captures of actual sites, advice from practicing professionals and ready to use materials make this book a must-have for anyone interested in effective web development. Provides an overview of the web development process and planning phases.
Web Usability: A User-Centered Design Approach - This new book by Jonathan Lazar provides readers with the concepts and tools needed to develop Web sites that maximize the user experience. It takes readers through the entire User-Centered Development Life Cycle, demonstrating practical skills and techniques that will help them for years to come. THE USER-CENTERED DEVELOPMENT LIFE CYCLE The User-Centered Development Life Cycle ensures that the needs of a Web site’s users are the focus of the Web site’s design, from its inception through its implementation and management. Keeping this focus–while collecting requirements, designing pages, and performing usability testing–results in a more effective design and more satisfied users. Real-world applications are highlighted in four Case Studies, which demonstrate how both commercial and noncommercial organizations designed user-centered Web sites.
Microsoft Office 2007 Brief: A Professional Approach - Using unique exercises from realistic business situations, this step-by-step approach is supported by a colorful graphics program. The series is ideal for students new to the world of computers, yet in-depth enough to challenge more savvy users. Each lesson contains up to 25 skill applications and each unit contains up to 5 skill applications that take students from simple to complex situations.
Discovering the Internet: Complete Concepts and Techniques - This second edition is a hands-on introduction to the Internet that covers both basic and technical Internet concepts and skills. This book is designed to blend concepts and basic skills required to be a successful user of the Internet. Societal coverage makes this book unique, and with content on e-business and technologies of the Internet, students will receive both basic and technical coverage of Internet concepts and skills.

"You’re such a smart boy!" were his first accolades heard. So, it’s no wonder that this phrase became the title of his business, Smart Boy Designs.

Eww I don’t miss the days of shelling about big books for university text books. By my last semester I stopped buying a lot of them. These books sounds pretty good though. I guess the difference is that I took a general computer course that covered some topics which I was not interested in.
There’s some great books there.
Web usability is a really interesting topic and there is some surprising stuff in there about the psychology of users and how to maximise their experience.

That is a interesting collection you have there. I have turned the leaves of “discovering the internet” and “discovering computers,” the latter was a bore since I read it when I had already done half of the things it talked about. Another good source I used to study HTML and CSS and expand on my web knowledge was a website called “pagetutor;” it breaks things down like a Geo in Atlanta rush hour traffic. Thanks for the list, I will delve into some of these to expand my knowledge.

Thanks for the responses. Yes – books are expensive. Especially when you have to purchase a whole pile of textbooks in one shot!
I’m excited to check them all out.
