When we’re first introduced to Twitter – we usually begin mingling in the community by immediately posting Tweet after Tweet regarding our own products, daily life, and other random stories. This, is, in fact the complete opposite of what Twitter is all about. Twitter is about sharing with the community – and becoming attuned and accustomed to the needs of others. By serving others – we gain the most in life. The same is true for Twitter.

One of the most valuable assets of Twitter is its Search capability. There you’ll find a universe of information – all behind the gate of a simple search form. In all my dealings with Twitter I’ve found that this particular area of Twitter is where the real magic happens. Where you gain followers. Where you make friends. Where you share your knowledge and information. In the following steps I’ll share with you the importance of Twitter Search.

The Steps to Twitter Search Paradise

1. Search For Your Field – The first step is to search for Tweets related to your specific field of expertise and knowledge. What do you Tweet about? What do you enjoy? Plug those keywords into Twitter Search in order to find discussions where your knowledge will be useful & accepted.

2. Engage In Conversations – After you’ve found Tweets related to your specific topic, begin offering advice, help, and support where needed. For example – my area of knowledge lies within topics ranging from HTML, blog promotion & Wordpress. On a daily basis I’ll plug keywords such as “wordpress help, html code, etc…” into Twitter Search – and see what individuals are discussing for the day. After which I’ll supply sufficient advice in the form of reply Tweets. Offer help & service freely – and watch as your followers dramatically explode.

Lasting Relationships & Valuable Connections

As you aide your community by offering valuable, helpful Tweets – you’ll increase as a trusted and reliable source of information and content regarding your niche. Not only will Twitter followers increase, but blog visits and readers as well. Your readers will also have the tribute of being faithful and attentive to your work – as you’ve given of yourself to that individual in the past.

The entire take away & point of my message is that Twitter is about service to others. In order to truly succeed with the service you must find ways to help those around you. This is the only way to become recognized – as Twitter is a mass of millions pointing right back to one person. Self. In order to truly succeed – aide those around you – and those fingers will be pointing back at another individual. You.

  • I agree, search.twitter.com is very useful for finding followers, sometimes there are other good directories too, wefollow is proving to be a Yellowbook of twitter and is useful too.
  • Twitter will become an excellent resource as you become more involved in blogging and social media. It's an excellent way to drive targeted viewers to products, information, and blogs.
  • Awesome information Christian,

I signed up on twitter about a month ago and have not done anything with it since. I guess I am just an old fart (only 31) but I was feeling like my parents must have felt every time they came to me as a kid and asked which remote they needed to make the sound work in the speakers when they turned on the TV :-).

Now I have a bit of an idea of how to play around with Twitter and put it to good use. Thanks for the insight.
