another thing i'm interested in is knowing if google gives the same weight to links posted to sites directly, and links that are posted using a url shortener? i try and post the url of my site as i'm scared of a wasted chance to get a link to mine but it would be much easier not having to worry and being able to use a shortened url.

Chris, interesting question. I do believe most of the individual Tweet pages are indexed. I just searched for some of my old Tweets in Google - and it shot out some of the Tweets. The weight Google gives to Twitter is currently changing - so it's important to keep testing - and see what we can find.

This is an interesting post. I'm going to try an experiment. I have a certain website I've been working on trying to build links. I've submitted and been accepted by some high quality directories, but it's been weeks and Google still has not counted the link. I'm gong to try tweeting the URL to those directory listings to see how long it takes Google to index them.

Do twitter's actual pages get indexed? Or are they only good for helping OTHER pages get indexed?
If this doesn't make sense, let me explain via example:
For instance, if you type some search phrase into google, like "Micheal Jackson custody hearing" will any of the 10 results actually be:

twitter.com/xxxx_some_stuff_xxxx

Does my question make sense?
For instance, is there any point in tweeting anything at all if you don't have any followers? People make blog posts all the time for blogs that no one reads - but that doesn't mean Google doesn't spider and index them....

Since twitter tweets are like Facebook status updates (which no search engine indexes) then I was wondering if the same was the case for twitter. is there any point at all in tweeting if no one is listening?

I usually use my other sites to put in a link then supplement them with my own link building - eventually removing the links from my original blogs.

This is very interesting article. I was not thinking about the twitter this way. But you are absolutely right. In the future the power of social networks like twitter will surely continue increasing. I personally have already received few clicks from twitter users as well and I am just new on twitter. I can imagine the potential with hundreds of followers.

I wasn't really aware of that. I begin to write articles on HubPages. Each time the user publish an article, we have the possibility to send a twit through the publish page, which I was doing without knowing the effects. Know that I know it has a positive result on the indexing, I am going to do the same thing for my blog posts.

It's change a lot around here! Like what you did with your blog. Like your template. And also like your pictures at the zoo. They are really great. :)

Interesting. I recently started to tweet my posts and it did a lot for my blog. I didn't even consider the fact that it was helping it to get indexed in Google. Just another reason to keep using Twitter!
