In only two weeks of its initial release – Coldplay’s newest album, Viva La Vida, has sold more album downloads than any other album in digital history. The album has been downloaded a total of 354,000 times – breaking John Mayer’s album download record for Continuum, by 1,000 downloads.

Coldplay – comprised of band members Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion – have sold a total of 32.5 million albums. Their first hit single, “Yellow”, propelled this alternative rock group into music history – followed by such songs as “Clocks”, “Speed of Sound”, and “The Scientist”.

As their album download count increases – Coldplay’s record won’t be touched for quite some time. That is, unless, your not planning on producing a ground shaking album in the coming future…

  • "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" is a most enjoyable listening experience that keeps getting better each time. Don't judge it in comparison to the 3 previous Coldplay CDs. This one is completely different but just as, if not more, haunting.
  • I too believe they do an excellent job at producing unique, interesting albums - with songs that are exciting!
  • Algis Kemezys
It's always fun to wonder who will be the next Beatles, U2 or Madonna and it's comforting to find out it's ColdPlay who delivered us from rap and began a new chapter.
  • Well they do make damn fine records! I'm a huge fan.
  • Pretty impressive. It's a step up from their last album X&Y so I can see the interest. It makes fans of the band proud I'm sure.
